Steel Engineering Ltd were chosen by E.on to fabricate and install the first SCR (Selective Catalytic Reactor) system in the UK for Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station. The SCR is designed to significantly reduce carbon emissions and Ratcliffe is now one of the most efficient coal fired power stations and is the first large scale commercial project which runs on pulverised coal in the UK. With a total generation capacity of 2,000MW from four 500MW units it produces enough electricity to meet the needs of approximately 2 million households.

 

As legislation now requires that all major coal fired power stations install SCR’s by 2016, Steel Engineering Ltd are optimistic of winning additional contracts within this field due to the unique knowledge and expertise they have acquired in this emerging market.
