To date Steel Engineering Ltd have successfully completed the fabrication of two P2 Wave Energy Convertors for Pelamis Wave Power who are widely regarded as the world’s most advanced wave energy developer. These were the first and only commercial orders for wave energy converters in the UK.
Operating in water depths in excess of 50m, normally within 2 - 10km (1.2 - 6.2m) from the sea shore the P2 Wave Energy Convertor works by absorbing the energy of ocean waves and subsequently converts it into electricity. The unique design of the Pelamis P2 enables electrical generation to be smooth and consistent whatever the weather conditions. |
